HOLLYWOOD “WEDDINGS”
THE HOWARTH CASE. MEXICAN LAW IN QUESTION [Aust. & N.Z. Cable Assn.] (Received August 18 at 8.15 p.m.). HOLLYWOOD, August 18. The Australian actor, Mr. Jocelyn Howarth’s attorney, Mr. Louis Schwartz in the marital dispute, challenged Elia Kastro, an expert wit ness for the actor, George Brent. Kastro contended Californian couples spending a few hours in Mexico and being wed there are not legally married under the Mexican law. The witness insisted that such a marriage would be legal only when, one of the contracting parties indicated the intention of establishing Mexican domicile.
The movie colony is said to be very disturbed by this case, which may jeopardise the marriages of several famous couples, who eloped to Mexico. The court’s decision therefore, is awaited with the greatest interest.
