Good progress is being made with the construction of gold dredges for the West Coast, said the Minister ol Railways. x . Naturally, the requirements oi the Department itself were varied and extensive, said the Minister, but apart from this the workshops branch just now had several unusual orders on hand for other departments. For example, at Addington, a Government department had placed an order for. a new 170-foot steel mast for the new radio station, 3ZB. A 200-foot mast for the Dunedin radio station was also being made at Hillside. The work that the Government undertook to do in the fabrication of gold dredges for the West Coast had, as anticipated, provided a very useful quota of employment for those who were in need of such, stated the Minister. The work involved in the fabrication of the dredges at Addington had progressed very well, and now that erection work on the sites was actually starting, further employment was being afforded.

MATAKI DREDGE. AUCKLAND, August 16. Mataki Gold Dredging Limited, report that the telegraphed return for the week ended 15th instant was 27 ounces for 126 hours work and 9400 yards.
