(Our Own Correspondent] Messrs Houston Bros., of Hokitika, who have purchased the interests at the K.D.V. Sawmilling Company, intend to employ about 25 hands when the mill is ready to start operations. Stands for whitebait fishing have been taken up at the mouth of the Big Wanganui River, but so far only a couple of pints of fish has oeen netted. Among those fishing at this river are two young ladies, who maintain that they are going to be “in the hunt” for the little fish this season. There were no football matches held here this week-end, owing to other engagements. The Harihari Box Making Company have obtained a lorry to cope with the number of orders being received for white pine for the coming season. A bus load of local people paid a visit to Hokitika last Wednesday night to be present at the Railway Ball. The seventh birthday of thp local Women’s Institute will be celebrated at the Public Hall on Wednesday, when a mock wedding will be one of several items on the programme for the afternoon. Mr. Frank Haddock, is at present on a visit to Christchurch. Mrs. J. J. McKay, is making good progress at the Westland Hospital. Mrs. T. Cron, who has been on a visit to Christchurch, has returned. Mr. Arthur Kirby, left last week on a visit to Wellington. Mrs. Harris, of Far South Westland, is on a visit to her daughter, Mrs. J. Minehan, of Mount Hercules. Mr. and Mrs. W. Berry, of Herepo, paid a, brief visit to Hokitika last week. Mr. Jack Hinton, of the Public Works Department here, has received notice to proceed to Okuru. Mr. and Mrs. A. Searle, has left on a visit to Christchurch. Mr. and Mrs. C. Searle, who have been on a visit to the North Island, have returned. Mr. C. Glass, is on a visit to Christchurch. Mrs. S. Adamson, is on a visit to Hokitika.
