New Zealand, is now earning fame as a sire in Tasmania. Leading Sires: . Rey de Oro, Jack Potts, and Wrack will again be the leading sires of the Dominion. All are still good for some years’ service. Two Minute Record: Lawrence Hanoever, who took a record of 2min o:.'sec as a three-year-old, is being trained for a two-minute record in the States. Exaggerations: In writing of the deatli of a stallion that lived' to 30 years of age, a scribe said that the horse had served thousands of mares. Even if the horse averaged 50 a year for 20 years he would then only reach a single thousand. This is on a par with the claim that certain sires got hundreds of winners, when their record in some cases fell below one hundred. Racing Notes The Winter Cup: The table of winners and. their order of favouritism are:;— ■'l9ls—-Bansia (2. 1916 — Cherry Blossom (4). 1917 — King Star (25). 1918— Bedford (9). 1919— Gazique (9). 1920— Killowen (12). 1921— Clean Sweep (4). 1922 — Bon Spec (15). 1923 — Sunny Loch. (7) 1924 — Soliform (8). 1925— Kuhio (7). 1926— Le Choucas (1). 1927— Solferite (17). 1928 — Bisox (5). 1929— Historic (2). 1930— Toxeuma (3). 1931 — Kahikitoa. 1932— Fast Passage (1). 1933 — Mount Boa (16-13). . 1934 — Princess Doreen (22-24). 1935— Epris (3-3). 1936— Wino (7-7). 1937— Catalogue (9-9). The favourite last year was Ponty, who finished third, the winner being his stable-mate Wino, who failed as the favourite the year before. Bay Tree, the public choice in 1934, was well beaten. Polydora, the win favourite in 1933, finished second. Great Star, who carried most of the bullion in 1931, was down the course at the finish, and Staghunter was a similar disappointment in 1930. In previous years the average was about the same.
