GOLDMINING
OTAGO DREDGES. Three months ago two of the largest dredges to be erected in New Zealand, the Clutha River dredge and the Molyneaux River dredge, began operations. Wash ups since then have fulfilled expectations and together the dredges have reclaimed 2,391 ounces, representing £16,726. GOLDEN SANDS. " The Golden Sands return is 330 z. 13dwt. for thirty-four shifts. ARGO. The return for the week ''ending 1 August 14th., was 80 ounces for 126 hours, from 14,000 yards. WORKSOP. The return for tjie week ending August 12th., was 21 ounces for 128 hours, from 9,000 yards. BIG RIVER. The report for the week ending 12th. August, 1937, stated:— No. 4 Level. — Extended North Drive for 6 feet, making a total of 12 feet through fault which is carrying some boulders of stone. Centre Stope.—Am still carrying on the North and where the face is in mixed stone and reef track. In the south end, stoping out 2ft. 6in. of stone on the hanging wall branch, which went south for 22 feet. South Block Intermediate. — Am carrying along the stope towards the winze where the stope averages 7ft. 6in. wide. No. 5 Level.—Filling in is now completed in the south block stope and started to break out four feet of stone from the north end. Centre Stope.—Filling finished and i passes brought up.' has been driven on for 14 feet and passed through a two-feet seam of stone. Eighty-three tons of stone were delivered to the surface bins. MAORI GULLY. The Maori Gully dredge return was 42 ozs. 3 dwts. for 1344 hours’ dredging. NEW RIVER. The official return of gold won by the New River Dredge during the week ended August 12th., was 21 ozs. of gold from 10,000 yards treated in 114 hours’ dredging time.
