GLACIER LAKE
Bursts in Norway VALLEY FLOODED. [Aust. & N.Z. Cable Assn.] OSLO, August 11. The Great Glacier Lake, breaking, swept down the Simo Valley to Hardanger Fjord, razing farms and killing stock. The approaching roar warned the inhabitants, who, barely escaping death, fled to the hillsides, whence they saw their homes destroyed, leaving tremendous boulders and ice blocks. The flood originated in a glacier at Hardanger Joekelen, where the hot weather created a new lake under the ice. This pierced the glacier, causing an avalanche of millions of tons of water and ice.
