A sharp conflict of opinion marked the closing of the debate. Dr. Chaim Weizman resisted the absolute rejection of the partition plan. He declared: “So far and no further can England go. The real thing is to make the best of what is offered. A Jewish State would be something to offer in negotiating for peace with the Arabs.” Dr..Weizman has gone to Geneva to attend discussions of the Mandates Commission on Friday. HIT WITH WHISKY BOTTLE. LOS ANGELES, August 11. A whisky bottle, which was thrown, from the gallery at the Olympic Stadium, where many- cinema cele brities were viewing a prize light, slightly injured Chico Marx, _ and showered Al Jolson and Ruby Keeler with broken glass. BRITISH PUBLIC HEALTH EXPENDITURE. RUGBY. August 10. Local body financial returns for 1934-35 have just been published by the Ministry of Health. The figures clearly show that it. is largely by the help of Government grants that local authorities, especially in the poorer areas, are able to maintain good standards in health and other social services. Out of every £lOO of expenditure falling on the public fund in the average county or borough, just more than £39 was met out of grants from the National Exchequer, and the rate in some cases rose to £7O.
