lOur Own Correspondent] Mr. and Mrs. Jas Scott and Master Graham Walker, left on Wednesday morning on a holiday visit to Christchurch. Mesdames G. Ward. J. Baran, and J. Chapman are spending a week in Christchurch. Mrs. J. Purton (Dobson) who has been spending a few days in the township has returned home. Mrs. J. T. Young is visiting Dobson as the guest of her mother Mrs. J. Ford. Dr. K. Brochenshirc, is relieving Dr. L. J. Wicken at Reefton, who lias gone on holiday. Mr. C. Sims is visiting Christchurch for the racing carnival. Mrs. J. Jackson (Empire Hotel) leaves for Christchurch on Thursday morning, en route to Australia for an extended holiday. Mr. D. P. Shannahan (president) presided over a well attended meeting of the local branch of the Labour Party. Correspondence from neaclquarters sas dealt with, it was decided to invite Mr. Jas. O’Brien, M.P. (Westland) to visit Waiuta at ah early date. The offer of the Runanga: Labour Party to visit Waiuta for a’ debate was accepted. The date suggested was August 28th, and the subject chosen was: “That the legislation of the Labour Government has been beneficial”. The meeting decided to solicit support for the Labour papers. “The Standard” and the “Grey River Argus”. The meeting concluded with the usual vote of thanks to the chair, and it was decided to hold the next meeting on Saturday August 21 in the 1 sample rooms at 10.30 a.m. Miss Benita Hogg, a pupil of Mrs. H. A. Ord (Waiuta), was successful in the recent examination for the Trinity - College of Music, held in Reefton. No local football fixtures were played during the week-end... The Reefton juniors failed to put ir an appearance on Saturday. It looks as though football is finished, as far as home matches are concerned.
