PARLIAMENT PROROGUED. WELLINGTON, August 9. The Prime Minister said that Parliament would be prorogued from next Thursday, until September 2. H.M.S. LEANDER. WELLINGTON, August 10. It is announced by the Defence Minister (Mr Jones) that the programme of H.M.S. Leander has been amended, omitting the Fiji Islands visit, and now it is anticipated she will arrive at Auckland about August 18. MOTORIST INJURED. AUCKLAND, August 9. Severe head injuries were received by a Pukekohe business man, William Henry Alexander, when his car came into collision with a heavy motor lorry north of Mercer, on the Great South Road. EGMONT PARK. WELLINGTON, August 10. • A sympathetic hearing was given by the Minister of Internal Affairs (Mr Parry) to representations by a deputation from the Egmont National Park Board. He undertook to consider giving the Board permission to hold a district art union, in order that it might meet its liabilities, and he hinted at the possibility of taking legislative action to prevent the breeding of goats, which are causing destruction in the bush. The deputation asked for assistance in payment of the final debt on the Plateau Road to the skiing grounds, 4000 feet up, and also requested the Government to assist the Dawson Falls Committee to pay the £2OO incurred in replacing the electric light plant, destroyed by flood.
