CANTERBURY. One of the most enjoyable and sue cessful trips organised by the Inangahua Rugby League Sub-Centre took place last week when the Inangahua representative team journeyed to Christchurch to play the return match with Canterbury. The weather was fine and a very happy party enjoyed the trip immensely. The 7000 people present at the game must have been thrilled at the fine play witnessed. The Canterbury team . had been in solid training for a week under the coaching of George Nepia, whereas the local reps had no opportunity of working up a combination. The Canterbury backs played brilliantly and only great defence by Inangahua kept the score down. However in the second spell the local lads rose to the occasion and after being down 18 to 2, played over their opponents to reduce the gap to 9 points. Several openings, were missed and the Inangahua team can be judged very unlucky to lose. Every .member of the team played' well, special mention being made to Geo. Lockington, who was the best forward on the ground. He is a great leader and kept his pack together in fine style. Fox, Jackson, Richards, Hart and McManus all battled well and harassed the Canterbury defence. Again Scott and Kiely were the mainstay of the backs, although every man did all that was required of him.

On the return journey the members of the team gathered together to make presentations to their manager and captain. Mr C. Coxall (the manager) in a few well chosen words referred to the fine leadership of Mr P. Scott and on behalf of the team presented him with a cigarette case. Mr Scott replied thartking the boys for their fine gift. Mr T. McKenzie, on behalf of the team, presented Mr Coxall with a pair of hair brushes as a mark of appreciation of his services as manager. Mr Coxall replied that it was a pleasure to travel with such a fine set of fellows.
