RANGER’S CUP

THE BETTER BOAT Sopwith’s Verdict [Aust. & N.Z. Cable Assn.l NEW YORK, August 5. The America Cup has been won by the yacht Ranger. In to-day’s race, she scored her fourth successive victory of the Endeavour II by a quarter of a mile. The Ranger established a new record for the rectangular course. The Endeavour, despite crossing the starting line ahead of time, and being compelled to cross again, made the best race of the series. The Ranger assumed a two nundred yards’ lead before the Endeavour could rectify the error. The American boat increased the lead to three-quarters of a mile before the first turning, but the Endeavour made up thirty seconds on the second leg, in which it outraced the Ranger, and seemed to be overhauling the American on the third leg in a fifteen mile south-west wind, but the Ranger was too far ahead, finishing with a quarter mile lead.
