N.S.W. COAL CRISIS

MINERS PREPARED For Genera! Stoppage UNLESS OWNERS UNBEND. I Aust. & N.Z. Cable Assn.] (Received August 6, 11.5 p.m.) SYDNEY, August 6. There have been no tangible developments in regard to the threatened coal strike of the New South Wales miners. The position remains unaltered since the compulsory conference early in the week, which, as already cabled, was adjourned until next Tuesday. All of the Broken Hill Proprietary’s pits are at present idle, the men having refused to work since the recent stay-in strikes occurred. Sectional strikes are still in progress at pits elsewhere.

The coal owners have been holding conferences each day on their proposed counter log to the miners’ claims. The Miners’ Executive, which has also met frequently since Monday, has decided that if the owners’ proposals are considered to be unreasonable, work shall cease throughout the State, and that coal from Queensland shall be declared “black.” The Miners’ Executive point out that all preparations have been completed for a general stoppage of work next week in the event of the negotiations with the coal owners collapsing on Tuesday.
