BRUNNER NOTES

(Our Own Correspondent.) The successful players at the whist, drive held in Taylorville School on Saturday evening were Mrs J. Richardson Ist, and Mr W. Dando 2nd. Mrs J. Richards, of .Taylorville, has entered the Grey Hospital for treatment. |

Mr R. Meyers, of Taylorville, has returned from a visit to Christchurch.

Despite the wet weather on Saturday evening a large number attended a social and dance held in Wallsemd Hall by the Brunner Old Boys’ Asso-

ciation. Miss Watson supplied the music and Mr W. Carse was M.C. Items were contributed by Miss' B. Bateman. Messrs Teniperley. N. McNabb and W. Carse. Mr Carse said they had gathered that evening to do honour to Mrs F. Williams, a valued •member of the 8.0.8. A. ladies’ committee since its inception in 1930. The speaker called upon Mr W. Teniperley (president of the Association) to speak, Mr Temperley said they, were all extremely sorry to lose Mrs Williams. Along with the other members of the ladies.’ committee she had helped at all of

their social functions. Mrs J. Pender, Messrs R. Boustridgc, J. Pender and T. W. Morgan also made eulogistic. references to the guest and wished Mr and Mrs Williams and family success in their new home. The' president asked Mrs Williams to accept an illuminated address, autographed by the members of the committees "of the 8.0.8. A. in recognition of her services to the association at all times. Mrs Williams and daughters were always willing to give any assistance and ho wished them the best of health and prosperity. On rising to respond Mrs Williams was greeted with musical honours. She thanked the Old Boys for their handsome present they had given her, and as they'Had made her a life member of the association she would continue to help them as she was not going far away. Mr T. Morgan, on behalf of the Sports .Club, said ho wished to testifv to the high esteem in which she is held and presented Mrs ■Williams with a beautiful Stuart crystal salad bowl and wished her the best of. health and happiness. Mrs Williams suitably responded. A dainty supper was served by the Old Boys (the ladies being conspicuous by their absence in the kitchen on this occasion), the excellent brew of tea by the secretary being commented on by many. The singing of "Auld Lang! Syne’’ concluded a very pleasant, even-i ing.
