HOKITIKA, May 3

The racing mare, Gay Colleen, died on Saturday night from injuries she received when struck by a motorcar in Hampden St., about 9 o’clock. The ear, an old Dodge, driven by Mr G. C. ’West, struck the mare on its hind quarters. The car which received the impact almost full in front, was eonsioorably damaged, the radiator ami mudguards being broken. 'lhe hoise was ■ being trained by Mr IV. Holley, in front of whose residence the accident occurred, and was leased by Mr J. Duncan. She had nun at the last West Coast race meetings. The Labour Party’s monthly meeting takes place to-morrow at 8 p.m., at the Town Hall.

The m.v. Hokitika, which arrived in the loadstead' from Greymouth on Sunday, has been unable to enter port owing to the heavy sea prevailing. Conditions to-night showed no improve, ment.
