3000 PEOPLE ON WHARF.

(Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, March 28. In pleasant circumstances the Prime Minister (Rt. Hon. Mi. <L Savage), left by the Arawa on Saturday night to represent New Zealand at the Coronation of King George VI and at the Imperial Conference. He was given a memorable farewell. It was estimated that close on 3000 persons were assem bled on the Glasgow Wharf when the ship sailed at 10.45 p.m. The night was perfect, a full Easter moon lighting the scene from a lightly mottled sky. Wellington harbour was glassy calm and mirrored. Mr Savage went down, to the ship early, and after seeing, his edbin, made his way to the boat deck, where he was (joined by the Acting-Prime Minister (Hon. Peter Fraser) and his colleagues of the Labour Ministry. Also with him were several members of the Legislative Council, representatives of the various Tr«J??<s Unions, delegates to the ■ Easter Co; . renee of the New Zealand Labour Pa. ?, and a host of others who had gone on board to wish him bon voyage. Other members of the official party travelling on the Arawa were ,the Secretary of the Treasury, Mr G. C. Rodda Mr C. A. Berendsen, permanent, head of the Prime Minister’s Department, and Mr C. A. Jeffety, chief. private secretary to the Prime Minihter and clerk of the Executive Council. They were accompanied by their wives. Supporters’ Farewell MANY PRESENTATIONS MADE WELLINGTON, March 28. A well-filled wallet from Labour Members of Parliamnet, a brace of pipes from the Wellington Waterside Workers, a cutty briar carved and lidded by Maori craftsmen and a “Bangitira”' walking stick from the native tribes of New Zealand and an inlaid casket from a Gisborne family of wellwishers were given to the Prime Minister (Rt. Hon. M. J. Savage) at a social farewell at Parliament House on Saturday afternoon before his departure by the ’Arawa for the Coronation and the Imperial Conference. Gifts were presented also to the Minister of Labour (Hon. H. T. Armstrong) who will leave Wellington on April 6 for Geneva, and Mrs Armstrong, who will accompany her husband, Mr E. J. Howard M.P.‘for Christchurch. South, and chairman of committees in the House of Representatives and Air FW. Schramm, M.P.. for Auckland East, both of whom were leaving for London as guests of the Empire Parliamentary Association.

500 Delegates N-Z. labour conference. WELLINGTON, March 27The annual conference of the New Zealand Labour Party, which will open at Wellington on Monday, will be attended by a larger number of delegates than any previous conference. The attendance of 220 delegates last year was a record, but that number will be greatly exceeded this year. More than 500 representatives of the Party and various other organisations will tender a social farewell at Parliament House this afternoon to Mr Savage.
