LONDON, June 9. Air 11. W. C'leminson, general manager of the Chamber of Shipping, in a letter to “The Times,’’ recalled that Mr Baldwin, Mr Neville Chamberlain, Mr Runciman. aud other Ministers, have, inside and outside the Commons, declared a determination to defend British shipping. He says:. If continued reliance be placed upon tho declarations, it is essential, before Mr Menzies returns to Australia, that the British Government shall have given a clear definite lead, and reached a provisional agreomnt with representatives of the three other Governments concerned, subject only to neecssarv confirmation.
The Port' of London Authority took a hundred Australian and New Zealand visitors on a tour of the docks. The visitors included. A. W. Pearse, R. S. Forsyth and J. Begg (New Zealand Meat Producers’ Board).
Welcoming the guests, Lord Ritchie congratulated Australia and New Zealand, during the financial crisis on grasping the nettle, sooner than any part of the world, and establishing a new economy. <f We followed you,’' he said. _
