THE WEATHER
WELLINGTON, May 8. The weather report and forecast are as follows:— General situation: A rather intense anti-eyelone extends across the north Tasman Sea on to New Zealand, but pressure has been relatively low today oil’ the East Cape. A fresh depression of the westerly type covers the south-west Tasman Sea. Forecast: Winds moderate to strong southerly .jo south-easterly north of Westport ®d Kaikoura but decreasing. Elsewhere light to moderate and variable but with northerly ruling and northerlies extending to beyond Cook Strait by to-morrow, and gradually freshening. Seas (New Zealand waters): Rough north of Farewell Spit and Cape Camlpbell; elsewhere moderate, (but rising later in the far south. Eastern Tasman Sea: Moderate south-east winds in the northern portion with moderate seas, freshening north-west winds and rising seas in the southern portion. Weather: For the most part fine, but a few scattered and mainly coastal showers at first between Cook Strait and East Cape, becoming unsettled again shortly, however, on the west coast and far southern districts of the South Island, with rain developing there. Temperatures: Cohl, with inland frosts to-night, but becoming milder generally to-morrow.
