REEFTON NOTES

REEFTON, September 9,

At the hospital this morning, Mr George Wildormoth, miner, and a well-known resident of Reeftnn, died. A native of Kaiapoi and 60 year s of age, he had resided here for about 30 years, and worked in many of the mines, where ho contracted miners’ phthisis, from which he had been an acute sufferer for several years. For tlie past year he- had been an inmare of the hospital. He is survived by a widow and family of four sons, William, Roy, .Tack, and Gordon, and four daughters, Mr s Sexton (Greymouth), Mrs Bainborough (Alexander Mino), Myrtle (Wellington) and Maureen (Reefton). The bereaved will have the •sympathy of a wide circle of friends in their loss. The interment will take place on Wednesday, the funeral leaving the- Church of the Sacred Heart at Iff a.m. for the Suburban Cemetery. Requiem Mass will be celebrated at 7 a.m.

The death took place -aif Westport last evening of Mrs Kane, mother of Mr P. Kane, manager of the Bank New Zealand, Reefton, and also of Matron Kane, of Reefton Hospital. The deceased visited Reefton three weeks ago t staying with her son. Matron Kane left for Westport/ ’asf even iwg, but Mr Kane is confined to his room with a somewhat serious illnes-. In addition to Mr P. and Matron Kane of Reefton, -the deceased lady leaves one son resident at Addison's, and another in Wellington. The family will receive the sincer e sympathy of a very wide circle of friends. The school holidays ended to day and scholars throughout the district will assemble to morrow for .the third term.

Mr T. Perry, son of Mr and Mrs Perry ,of Inangahua, was brought ro Reef ton Hospital on Friday after sustaining injury to an arm through coming into contact with a circular saw ait tho mill in Inangahua Valley, where he was employed. Mr R. Don, who visited DunetV’n during tiho school holidays, returned on Saturday evening.

Mt T. ,L. Floyd has left for Wellington. where he attends 4he P. and T. officers annual conference. Mr Flovd then goes on to Auckland, where his mother resides. The schedules for the Inangahua A. and P. Association’s spring show have been issued, and. anyone desiring a copy may obtain one at Messrs J. W. Chalk’s and from Mr T. L. Floyd (secretary). The (association offeis quite a number of special prize s foi rhe principal exhibits. On Saturday evening, in <the Gymnasium Hall, the local Boxing Association will commence the new season with a schoolboys’ and amateur Voiunament. Eight boys’ bouts will oe staged, and four amateur contests wih complete the bill. The boys have been showing such enthusiasm that a certain “value for money” entertainment is already assured. In the ama teur section, the matchings are as follows: L McKane (Reefton) v. M ■ Hawkins (Greymouth), C. Mathewson (Reefton) v. J. Campbell (Grejmouth), D. Dobson (Reofton) v. »• Brazil (Cronadnn).
