CANTERBURY RAINS
FARMERS’ RELIEF Good General Fall (Per Press Association). CHRISTCHURCH, September 9. Thc increasing anxiety of farmers nt the prolonged absence of rain was completely relieved to-day, when a copious fall occurred practically throughout the province. The rain started between 5 and 6 o’clock in the, morning, and it continued uninterruptedly throughout the day. At the latest advices this evening, the rain was still falling, though not so heavily as before.
In. som e districts the fall ranged from inches in Mid-Canterbury to 3+ inches, the latter quantify having fallen at Waikari. The rain was the heaviest in North Canterbury, where it was most needed. The fall was accompanied by a low temperature in most districts, and as the lambing is now general, losses of larmbs born during th e . downpour are probable. ,
