WHAT TO EXPECT

FROM 1U LABOUR WHEN IN POWER Policy for Next Parliament (Per Press Association) September 9. The Leader of the Opposition, Mr M. J. Savage, addressed a large meeting in the Auckland Town Hall tonight. In the course of his address, he severely criticised the Coalition Government. At the conclusion. Mr Savage stated tkait. if given a majority in the next Parliament, the Labour Party would use the whole of it’s powers to give effect to the following policy during the life of that Parliament:— (1) Immediately to restore th c cuts made in all of the pensions; and. where full pensions are involved, to place them on the basis of a reason able standard of life. (2) Establish a National system of Superannuation which will be payable to all citizens, beginning at six-tv years of age. or at invalidity, and extending in accordance, with scientific development and increased production. (3) Restore all <of the cuts made in wages and salaries. (4) Safeguard the Superannuation rights of all of the Civil Servants (5) Assume the control of public credit), and establish a National Credit Authority, whose duty it will be to provide a money service sufficient to give effect to the wi l ! of Parliament.

(6) Organise a National Health Service, based upon Universal Insurance, providing for payment for services Tendered, whether in the home or in a public institution, and cafeguarding the rights of thn Friendly Societies. (7) Re-establish all able-bodied workers in the industries, public works, and services of the Dominion at rates of pay tha 41 wi’J enable iht-m to obtain an equitable share of the country’s .total production. (8) Guarantee economic pr.xes to thn farmers and to others who are producing in accordance with the Dominion’s requirements, and further extend the primary and secondary in dustries.

(9) Provide adequate protection for ‘hose secondary industries whirii can be economically developed in th£ Dominion. (Tn fihis connection it is the intention of Labour to maintain Customs tariffs where necessarv until industry can he protected hv substantial control of our external trade). (10) Re-adjust mortgages on the basis nf guaranteed prices, beginning at the average of the prices ruling during the past eight or f rn years.

Ill) Extend the activities of. the Education Department in Tirovidnift free education from the Kindergarten to the University, includin'? the re instntement of the fivo-year-old chi’dro s in the primary schools. (12’> -Co-operate the services of all of the Members who ar P elected to snrmort Labour, in order to obtain their full service in shaping and in the nflnvnistration of the law.
