HOCKEY
N.Z. LADIES’ TOURNEY. GISBORNE, August 2. Fourteen teams have been entered for the Dominion Ladies’ Hockey tournament commencing at Gisborne on August 29, the teams being as follows: Southland, Eastern Southland, Otago, Ashburton, Canterbury, Marlborough. Wellington, Wairarapa, Akito. Ruahiuc, Bush, Auckland and two Poverty Bay. Arrangements for the tournament were discussed at a meeting of the Association last evening, when it was decided that it would be necessary to spread the play over nine days instead of a week as originally intended.
LOCAL MATCHES. To-day’s games are: Pacific v. St. Columba 1.30 p.m. at Rec.; Cobden v. Wesley, 2.45 p.m. at Rec. Referees, Messrs Newton and McLeod. St. Columba team: Ryan, McHugh (2), Cameron, Gough, Grogan, Lowe, Harrington, Casey. Cobden team: Mettrick, Carter, Minchin. Burn, Clarke, Lowe, Skeats. Morgan, Eatwell, Kerr, Vaughan, Weir and Beckman.
