NEW HOTEL

IN GUINNESS STREET. A hotel, which is to be built to the order of a company, Hotel Wesitland Ltd. on the intersection of Guinness and Tarapuhi Streets. Greymouth, is estimated to cost £16,000. The contract for erection was signed last week, the successful tenderer being the Christchurch firm, of John Bean land and Sons, Ltd. The hotel will be of simple design, oY two storeys in brick and concrete. The work of pulling down three old wooden buildings on the site, will be begun almost immediately, and it is estimated that the construction will be complete in about nine months’. The main entrance will be from Guinness Street, and opposite the entrance will be an office. To the left will be a private bar and the bar parlour, and to the right a commercial room, while behind that will he a public bar and bottlestore. On the other side of the foyer will he a. lounge, 42 fee’.t by 30 feet. The dining room will be 42 feet by 38 feet also. The kitchen block will he on. the ground floor. 3’here will he a wide staircase. A well in the centre will await .'the installation of a lift when a third storey is added in the future. A concrete balcony will stand over the entrance. On the upper floor ■will be 29 bedrooms, eight being double. There will be six baths and < four showers .installed, two of the bathrooms being for inclusion in smites. Each bedroom will have a telephone, wash basrin, mirror, and built-in wardrobes. Wihen a third floor is added., there will be 60 bedrooms. There will be an entrance to the lounge from Tarapuhi Street. The lounge will be made available for public use as a tearoom.
