an intense cyclone is advancing across north Tasman Sea, while a depression is also located over south-east Australia. Forecast: Winds south-wester ly al first in Cook Strait area; otherwise north easterly winds prevailing,, of strong to gale force in the far north: elsewhere light to moderate, but gradually freshening. Seas in New Zealand waters rough north of East Cape; elsewhere smooth-to moderate, but later rising generally north of Farewell Spit and Kaikoura. Eastern Tasman Sea: North-east winds of strong to

gale force, in the northern portion, with rough to high seas, and moderate but increasing winds in southern portions. with moderate, but rising seas. Weather cloudy to overcast, and in places misty ir foggy; rain in the northern and east coast districts of the North Island, with some heavy fails, and rain gradually becoming general.
