Woman Drowned MURCHISON CAR ACCIDENT. (Per Press Association). NELSON. May 27. An accident, which resulted in the death of Mrs S. B. Fairbanks, of Six Mile, Murchison, occurred at Longford. Murchison, last evening., whetn a car. which was being driven through thick fog, ran off the road over the benk into the bed of the Buller River. The ear which was driven by H. V. Fairbanks', a son of deceased, had as passengers. Mrs senior, Robert Bunn (Murchison) and T. Lester, of Nelson. Leaving Nelson in the afternoon for Murchison*. thick ba»nks cf fog were experienced on the Longford Road. When about one mile on the northern side of the Longford bridge, the can went off the road, and 'turned over down a coining to it st on the rocks near the water of the Buller River. Mrs Fairbanks was thrown out into the water* which runs very swiftly at 'that point*, and was drowned, her body being recovered this morning* about aj mile further down the river. The other occupants of the car differed minor injuries. GISBORNE. May 27. An elderly man. Martin Mooney, was found dead in a single-roomed cottage used as a bach. Hip appearances indicating ho had arisen from 'the bed and collapsed on the floor. Death has been certified as from natural causes. CHILDREN FATALLY BURNT. (Aus. and N.Z. Cable Assn.) SYDNEY* May 26. Two girls were burnt to death when their home was destroyed by fire near the township of Guyra, early thi? morning. The victims were Doreen Baldwin, five years-, and sister. Mary three years. The children’s father ml friend narrowly escaped, being d .iggel from the house, just before the roof eol.lapsed. Mrs Baldwin and three other children wore at a dai te. abou half a mile away. A man at the dance saw the firo and raced to the cottage and arrived .just in time to save the father, Herbert Baldwin, and a man named Cook, both of whom wore severely burnt. The man who rescued Baldwin and Cook was not aware that two children were asleep in another room, until Mrs Baldwin arrived). and it was then too late to rescue them. The police believe that the lire was caused by the pipe of one of the men setting alight- a wooden wall of the room, after they had retired. BRISBANE, May 27. Martin Cosgrove. one of the three men injured in an aeroplane crash, (on May 24th) died in the hospital. The other two are recovering.
