REQUEST FOR GIFT. TO CITY COUNCIL. * (Per Press Association). CHRISTCHURCH. May 27. The Christchurch City Council decided this evening to refer to the Finance Committee a request for a contribution to the King’s Jubilee Gift Fund for cancer research in New Zealand. The Council had before it a. te 7egiam from the Secretary to the Treasury, also a letter from the New Zealand Branch of the British Empire Cancer Campaign. Society, and a letter from the Can'terbury|. Marlborough, Nelson and Westland division of the branch. Councillors said, in brief comment, that there wa.i no urgency for an immediate decision on this question. Hence the reference of it to the Committee.
