The “Daily Express’s” diplomatic correspondent says: “Signor Mussolini has* got all that he wanted regarding Abyssinia. Yet Italy is able to remain in the League. There can be n<. war in Africa until September, when the rainy season ends. By that time Signor Mussolini will be prepared again to snap his fingers alt the League, if it presumes to interfere. Yet this is hailed as a triumph for the League of Nations. ’ ’ HITLER’S PROPOSALS. (British Official Wireless.) RUGBY, May 26. In pursuance of Mr Stanley Baldwin ’s undertaking on behalf of the Government in the Commons, that the fullest and fairest consideration would be given to Hitler’s recent speech, detailed examination of the German Chancellor’s declaration of policy is proceeding. As was anticipated, further examination of certain passages has been considered desirable, and the British Ambassador in Berlin, Sir *E. Phipps, visited the German Foreign Office to ask for more precise information on several points raised in the speech. BRITAIN’S AERIAL FORCE. (Aus. and N.Z. Cable Assn.) LONDON. May 26. Thousands of young men, seizing the chance of a career, formed queues at the Air Force recruiting depots, in response to the Air Ministry’s appeal. At least two thousand called at Victoria House. Kings way. Five hundred applied to the Air Ministry, while written applications exceeded three thousand. DOMINION NAVIES. LONDON. May 26. A decision of cons’derable significance to Empire defence is announced in Fleet orders. All British Navy ratings henceforth will be liable to duty ir. the Dominions’ navies. Volunteers will be sought first, and if insufficient available ratings will he drafted for service in the Dominions, the same as for the Royal Navy service abroad.
