CONTROL OF ARMS
New Position IN POLICE DEPARTMENT. (Per Press Association). AUCKLAND, May 14. Mr G. G. Kelly, of Auckland has been appointed arms advisory officer to the Police Department, with his headquarters in Wellington, and he will take up his duties on June 1. This position is a new one, and it has been made necessary by the increase in work following on the legis lation of last year, which has placed on the police, the responsibility, not only of supervising the arms already in New Zealand, but also new importations. All importers are now required to submit to the Police Department samples of the weapons they import for approval before they are allowed to clear them from bond. Mr Kelly has had long experience with small arms of all typeSj and on many occasions he has been called on by the police for expert advice. For many years he was associated with the Colonial Ammunition Coy., Ltd., and more recently, he has been Managing Director of Kelly Ltd., of Auckland.
