MEAT DEADLOCK

PARLEY STILL FUTILE. LONDON, May 13. The meat situation remains a deadlock. The British and Australian Ministers resumed deliberations in Mr Thomas’s roonij, in the Hous*e of Commons this afternoon, and again traversed the whole ground. There was not the slightest, progress. The Ministers departed without even issuing a communique. All proposals and counter-proposals are apparently futile. It is impossible to compromise on 'the Anglo-Argentina agreement, either pending the termination of the agreement, or afterwards. The Australian Press] Association, referring to the Anglo-Australian meat deadlock, says that Mr Coates takes up the discussiop on behalf of New Zealand later in the week. He will take a different line from Australia.

Mr Forbes visited the Government fuel research station, Greenwich, where he saw the latest discoveries in carbonisation and hydrogenisation of coal. Ho learned that important discoveries in the treatment of coal were made within the last three months.
