(Our Own Correspondent.) Whippet Placing: WESTPORT, May 13. The Buller Whippet Club held a very successful meeting yesterday at Gloucester Park. Valedictory: Mr J. Bayldon, Collector of Customs, who leaves shortly for Auckland on transfer, was farewellcd by members of the Westport Golf Club, of which he was a. member. After the loyal toast, had been honoured. the President of the dub, Air G. 1). Campbell, spoke of the high esteem in which Mr Bayldon was held and said that golfers in Westport were losing a member who had rendered very efficient service in his administration of the dub’s affairs during his six years as Secretary. Air J. .Metson and Air A. Nottle also paid fine tributes to the guest of the evening, and many other speakers made reference to his sterling qualities. The President then asked Air Bayldon to accept from his fellohv golfen- a. set of Loewe pipes. Mr Bayldon on rising to respond, v.;*< greeted with loud applause. TTe said that whatever service he had rendered to lhe Club had b n cn given with pleasure Tie regretted his departure. but stated he would cherish vei'v pleasant memories of his association throughout. Tie felt that the warm hearted gathering was sufficient recognition as Car as he was concerned without the presentation, for which hp also offered thanks. The toast of kindr/1 sp</-s. which was ably proposed by Air C. Walker, brought forth some very line responses by Alessrs C. Thdmas (Westport Jockov Club'). J. AL'tson (cricket'), A. Not He (boxing'). M. Neill (wrestling), H. Loekey (tenn’s). W. Phibbs (football') R. TToldgatp (rowing), F. Coker (hockey), E. A. Owles (bowls) and J. I\. Ba ; lie (swimming). Other toasty were the New Zealand Golf Association, proposed by Air C. AlonTgomerio, responded to bv lhe present Seeretarv of the Club. Air TT. K. Slocombc; and the Ladies, proposed bv Air J. S/'okes, am] responded to by Air J. Wilson ami Air F. Slec. The President mentioned that the Club wore unfortunate in that thev were, losing the services of Air T Park who had received word of his appointment as manager of a departmental sFore in Nelson. Alanv eulogistic references were made bv those present' concerning Air Park, who feelingly responded.
