WESTPORT BRANCH. (Our Own Correspondent.) WESTPORT, May 13. The fcrtnightly meeting of the loc ■! branch <x the New Zealand Libour Party was held last evening. Mr W. H. Woodcock presiding. There was a large attendance of members. Mr Walsh, Secretary of the Seamen’s Union, who is visiting Westport in connection with a dispute on the s.s. Kanna, was also present. A letter was read from the Secretary of the L.R.'C.. advising that a meeting of that body would be held in Grey mouth on Sunday next, and that a ear would leave the Black and White Hotel at 7 a.m.. for the convenience of Buller delegates. Mr Shaw was of the opinion that cen/tres should be established at both ends of the electorate and the delegate representing the branch was instructed to move in that direction at the conference. A vote of appreciation of services rendered by Mrs McKinlay on the Social Committee was carried by acclamation and the hope expressed that she would shortly resume her activities. In connection with the social side of the branch’s work it was decided to hold community concerts*, under the direction of Mr Higman, every alternative Wednesday, in the Labour Rooms. Mr Walsh, Secretary of the Seamen’s Union, spoke last evening at the Laobur Party’s meeting and gave an interesting review of the recent conference held at Wellington. He was of the opinion that Labour’s prospects of taking hold of the reins of Government. at the coming were exceedingly bright. Mr Walsh addressed an enthusiastic meeting of the Watersiders’ Union this morning, and his remarks were followed with close attention. He was* accorded a hearty vote of thanks at the conclusion of an excellent address.
