REEFTON. May 12

Mr W. King, employed by Messrs McElweo and Sons, cut his leg near the instep with an axo while working at Mr Austin McElwee’s farm at Maimai. The wound required several stitches. He will be idled for some time.

A motor accident took place on the Grey road yesterday near Waimaunga, when Mr and Mrs Norman Bolitho wore proceeding down the road in their- car. A motor lorry was coming out of a gravel quarry on the side of the road, and Bolitho’s car struck the lorry with serious results. Mrs Bolitho sustained a severe cut in the neck, narrowly missing the jugular vein, through striking the glass windscreen. Mr Bolitho was not so severely hurt, hut was badly shaken. Mr 11. Leggoe brought the injured couple to Reefton. and Mrs Bolitho was taken to Beefton Hospital.

The Gymnastic. Chib decided at a meeting to hold a working bee on Wednesday at the gymnasium to assemble equipment, and to open their training on Thursday evening, when all interested are invited to attend. Mr O’Neill advised that the clubs were completed, and the horizontal bars are pearly ready. Mr K. J. Holyoake. M.P., with Mr M. Fennell, County Engineer, visited at Maruia on Friday the site of some proposed work. Mr TTolvoake leaves here to-morrow for Wellington. Mr W. S. Pratt, headmaster, who is leaving to take over a position at Blenheim, and Miss T. Kearns, who shortly is to be married. wore farewelled by the school pupils.
