RAILWAY CHANGES
NEW APPOINTMENTS Staff Transfers (Per Press Association). WELLINGTON. May 10. Mr. G. TT. Macklev, General Manager of Railways, made an announcement to-dav. on behalf of the Government Railways Board, regarding the important decisions affecting the general organisation of the Department.
“The financial result of all the changes indicated herein,” said Mr. Mackley, “is estimated to be a net saving of expenditure of £2200 per annum. There are four principal North Island railway districts at present, Auckland, Ohakune, Wanganui and Wellington. The district headquarters at Ohakune Junction will be abolished. They were never justified from a purely commercial or business point of view, but were established on the opening of the line solely on account of train running and transport considerations.
“The Board had decided to make the following changes and restore the following positions, in order to strengthen the organisation and afford relief to personnel, where it is most needed.
Transport Superintendent: G. T. Wilson. District Traffic Manager, Auckland, has been promoted to the position, with headquarters at Wellington.
Staff Superintendent and General Inspector: A. Urquhart, at present staff superintendent, has been promoted to the position. Other head office staff changes are:
F. K. Mackay, chief clerk of the commercial branch, has been appointed chief clerk at head office. A. L. Smith, goods clerk. Christchurch. has been appointed chief clerk to the commercial branch. A. J. Levick, chief clerk at Ohakune Junction, has been appointed assistant staff superintendent. A personal clerk, with head office administration experience, and who is familiar with the policy of the Board, is to be attached to the General Manager, and the position of Assistant Law Officer is to be revived. District staff changes are: — H. C. Gouch, District Traffic Manager, Wanganui, is promoted to be District Traffic Manager at Auckland.
W. P. Miller, District Traffic Man ager, Ohakune, is promoted to be District Traffic Manager at Wanganui. I. J. Howell, District Engineer. Wanganui, is promoted to the same position in the enlarged Wanganui District.
A. H. Murison, District' Engineer at Ohakune. will in the meantime be attached to the Chief Engineer’s staff, and engaged on special duties.
