N.Z. COUNCIL.

At the meeting of the above on April 9th, there were present Messrs L. Salmon (chair), W. G. Bryce, H. H. A. Renai, L. Sanders, S. C. Shedden and A. Williams.

His Excellency acknowledged a letter from the Council expressing regret at the departure of Lady Bledisloe and himself from New Zealand. Mr. Ernest Davis, President of the N.Z.F.A., thanked the Council for the good wishes expressed in connection with his nomination for the Auckland Mayoralty.

Notification was received from Mr. A. W. Sinclair, Secretary of the Otago F.A., that he has tendered his resignation to his Association same to take effect from the 30th May. Received with regret. Mr. E. R. Grace, auditor, applied for the dates of payments of interest made by the Mosgiel Football Club during 1934. The dates mentioned in the letter were confirmed by the secretary.

The Otago F. A. notified that it had decided to vacate the Caledonian ground and to revert back to the Logan Park. A report attached to the letter stated that the experience over the past two years has shown that it is practically impossible to show a profit. Received. Applications were received from Canterbury, Manawatu and Wanganui for school footballs. Being dealt with bv the Schools’ Committee.

Auckland F.A. and Abel’s Club.— The appeal fee of £1 refunded to the Abel’s Club by the Council has been retained by the Auckland F.A. on instructions received from the Club. A receipt for the amount was received. Wairarapa F.A. —A letter stated that there are prospects of a strong revival of the game in the district and that eleven teams have entered for the schools competition. A report of the annual meeting was received. Permission was granted for a team to play Lower Hutt on Easter Monday. Napier Schools’ F.A.—The Secretary (Mr. Whincop) reported that the prospects for the game in Napier were bright and that the Napier Boys 4 High School now officially recognised the game. It was expected that twenty school teams will be playing this season and a request for pamphlets for use of school boys was agreed to by the Council.

Wellington F.A. (Loan). —The Wellington F.A. thanked the Council for the -loan of £6B 14s sd, stating that same is much appreciated at the present juncture. Recd. Westland F.A. and Ruling of Council. —The Westland F.A. registered a protest at the action of the Council in deciding that 60 per cent, of the gross proceeds of a match played against the Buller F.A. in 1934 for the “Ems” Shield, as contained in the Rules, should he 60 per cent, of the proceeds of the match 4 4 after all expenses have been met.” The matter had been originally dealt with by the Council after a Ruling had been applied for by the Westland and Buller Associations. Accounts. —The following accounts were passed for payment: Rental of telephone, half year £3/10/-; Rental of private box £l/10-, half amount to be paid by the Wellington F.A.; Code, 41 Soccer” £2.

Emergency Committee Report. (Footballs)—The Emergency Commit tee reported that 100 size 4 footballs have been ordered from Mr R. B. Darlow, of Auckland, and that a further 100 have been ordered from Messrs Tuck well and Son, these being of English make. Confirmed.

Deputation from N.Z. Referees’ Association. —A deputation from the N.Z. Referees’ Association consisting of Messrs A. E. Caisley, G. Jackson, T. Wilkes and N. D. Brian attended the meeting to discuss matters in connection with the disbanding of the Auckland Referee’s Association by the Auckland Football Association. Mr. Brian read a letter from the Auckland F.A. which stated that the formation was in hand of a new Referees’ Association and that until advice was forwarded no body should be affiliated to the N.Z.R.A. Mr. Wilkes stated that he thought the trouble had been caused through the lenient sentences imposed upon players ordered off the field of play. Mr. Caisley thought old members'of the Referee’s Association had not received just treatment and considered the Council should take the matter in hand. Mr. Jackson said that there were eleven men in the new organisation of the Auckland F. A. and that many old members were being kept out of the game. A suggestion was made by Mr. Wilkes fhat if amicable arrangements could not be agreed to a representative from the Council and N.Z.R.A. should proceed to Auckland for the purpose of helping to right matters. The Chairman of the Council (Mr. B. L. Salmon) stated that, he would guarantee that if an amicable agreement was not come to the Council would see that no injustice was done to any member of the old Referees’ Asosciation and that the Council would insist upon Referees being supported by the imposition of adequate sentences upon players dealt with for misconduct.
