STRIKE AT BROKEN HILL. (Received January 1 at 7 p.m.) SYDNEY, January 1. Broken Hill was plunged into darkness on Nqw Year's Eve. when the enginemen at the Alunicipal Electricity Station walked out on strike The enginemen had demanded that the members of the Union should be placed in charge of the motors at the new city baths, but the City Council rejected the demand. All of this lights in the city are out, including those of the public and private hospitals, the picture theatres and the streets. RISE IN SECURITY VALUES. LONDON, December 31. A list of 365 representative securities compiled by the Bankers ’ Magazine, shows an increase in market value for 1934, aggregating £495,000,000. This follows an increase of £453,000,000 in 1933, and of £612.000,000 in 1932.
