BIG RIVER MINES. The report for week ending 18th October of the Secretary (Mr T. 11. Lee) states: No. 3 crosscut: Distance driven 7 feet. Distance from south drive 255 ft. Distance driven from shaft 452 ft. The country is s|till hard. No. 4 north drive: 311 ft from shaft. Total distance driven on reef 37ft. We are now rising in south end. The north end is looking exceedingly well. No. 4 south drive: 330 ft from shaft. Total distance driven 18ft. The reef is looking ven- promising, but has not widened to an r extent, maintaining a width of 2ft 6in. Water is weeping ou|t of the stone—a good sign. No. 1 level: Work has been suspended during this week. Battery: The batt commenced crushing one shift. BLACKWATER MINES. The quarterly report for the period ending September 30 states; No. 11 level north drive was extended 230 Aft all on reef averaging 21 inches wid‘-th and 9dwts value. No. 12 level, north drive was advanced 200 ft all on reef averaging 20 inches in width and 13.4 dwts. value. Rising during the period amounted to 1264 ft of which 93>ft exposed reef averaging 27 inches in width and 14.2 dwts. in value. Winzing totalled 123 fit of which 85ft exposed reef averaging 12.4 dwts. in value and 22$ inches width. Prohibition shaft: After being re-timbered between ten and eleven levels the shaft was sunk a further 764 ft. making Ithe total depth 2121 ft from the surface. Output: 11.550 tons were crushed yielding 5585 fine ounces of gold from all sources, the value of which, taking gold at current monthly market value, (imoun/ted to £38.623. Working costs were £17,415. leaving a working profit of £21,208. Development expenditure amounted to £2223 and capital expenditure £2954.
