STRANDED BRITISH STEAMER (Aus. & N Z. Cable Assn.) (Received October 8 at 7.10 p.m.) HONG KONG, October 8. The warship Suffolk reached Pratas yesterday, when she found the steamer City of Cambridge hard on the reef. She endeavoured to get boats alongside, but was prevented owing to heavy weather. The Suffolk reports that the captain and crew are still marooned aboard the steamer. They will not leave her until salvagers have reported whether she is likely to become a total loss. RUGBY, October 6. The search for the British steamer Millpool has been abandoned in the Atlantic. It is presumed the vessel, with a crew of 26, was lost in the same gale which crippled the Ainderby. After several days’ uncertainty as to the fate of the British freighter Ainderby, which was badly damaged during a terrific gale in the North Atlantic, the owners received a message from the master stating the situation was well in hand, no assistance was required, and he hoped to make Bristol Channel on Tuesday.
