It i.< understood that the old school buildings heo have changed hands, ’Ju; local Alasonic Lodge having pur•hased them fiom the Canterbury Education Board. Tho purchase price is not known. It is understood that 'he Lodge intends transforming the building into an up-to-date lodge loom, replete with all accessories. J-’ar.t of (he building will be extended and made into a refrectorv, and this room may possibly be made available for small func|iou.s in the town at .a nominal rental. Part of the building will also be fitted up as a caretaker s cottoge. It is the intention of the members to fence the place again, and to beautify it us funds are available. ’l’h's place has been more or less an eve-so. , 'c for some time back, since the fencing was allowed to tall into disrei'air. and it is pleasing to know that the new proprietors intend VO rectify this at an early date. This old building has been the cause nl much bitterness among various bodies in the township, since the now school took its pilace, and iraw that th-? question of ownership has been settled, and the cause of the (-ontroversv removed, all will look forward to improvements being undertaken. At tho moment a working bee is busy making preparations fo complete the ■h”>g's iie-essary in the building, and it is hoped to have everything in readiness to open 1,1 the renovated preini es in about nine months time. Tin* town water nice i> again causing Trouble. 'l'he water has been off for .some days. It seems a great pity that some workable' schenu? could not b (i arrived at between the Coal Company and the County Council regarding this recurring nuisance, as not only is the water supply cut off from, use in th? town. but. it a so militates against those men who are trying to ear n a little bit of gold along the terraces, to help eke out their meagre pittance. Sutrely something could be done.
