SKI CHAMPIONSHIPS
IN PROGRESS AT MOUNT COOK. (Per Press Association.) THE HERMITAGE, August 22. The inter-club and open ski championship meeting commenced at Mt. G< ok to-day. Recent falls of snow on the Ball Glacier, where th e sports arc held, resulted in conditions being ideal. There are competitors from Wellington. Christchurch, Timaru and Southland, and competition is exceedingly keen. In the downhill men’s open 'Championship. F. Drewitt (Tasman Ski Club) gave a fine display, completing the course in 14 minutes 18sees. N. McGregor (Southland Ski Cub) was second in 16min 35secs, and J. Elworthy (Southland Ski Club) vras third in 17min 23secs. H. Elworthy and 11. and 8. Wigley ran, but did not compete In the women’s downhill championship, Miss D’. Ma'ekie (Aorangi Ski Club) was Ist in 2min 14secs; Miss M. King (Christchurch Ski CW>) 2, 2 min 46secs. The downhill handicap race was won I v N. McGregor (S.S.C.) in 4min 15 secs, with M. Cooper (A.S.C.), 4min 20secs, second The inter-Ciub competition for the Inter-Club Cup resulted in a win for the Tasman Ski Club, with Southland second ai d Aorangi third.
