VESSEL WRECKED
On Mokau Bar KAPUT GOES ASHORE. NEW PLYMOUTH. August 21. The small oil-burning vessel, Kapui 50 tons) is ashore at Mokau. She is expected to become a total wreck. The Kapui was putting to sea early this morning from Alokau River, with a cargo of coal for Waitara, and when she was crossing the bar, a heavy sea crashed through her skylight, and stopped the oil engines. The vessel then quickly drifted round on to the beach, where her back was broken. Her crew of four reached shore safely. Thp Kapui is being pounded by fairly heavy seas, and is expected to break nip quickly. She is owned by Air Charles Wright, of Alangatoi. She has been trading between Waitara and Mokau for some years.
