OPERA HOUSE—TO-NIGHT ONLY. “HOOPLA.’ WITH (‘LARA BOW. Clara Bow heads the cast in ‘‘Hoopla,” her latest -outstanding production to be screened to-night only. Clara Bow plays the carnival dancer with astonishing versatility. It is the most important production she has had. Preston Foster, Richard Cromwell, Minna Oombell, Herbert Mundin, James Gleason, Roger Imhof and Florence Roberts are aptly suited to their roles. Frank Lloyd, who directed ‘‘Cavalcade,’’ has directed this film, with an inspired touch. Al Rockett produced the picture from the stage play, “The Barker,” by John Kenyon Nicholson. WEDNESDAY AND THURSDAY. “FLYING DEVILS.” An air duel more weird than any fought during tin* World \\ air. but performed without weapons, is pictured in “Flying Devils.’’ aerial thrill-drama coming to the Opera House at Wednesday’s matinee, evening and Thursday, with Eric Linden. Bruce Cabot. Arline Judge, Ralph Bellamy and Cliff Edwards. Grimfaced pilots jockey for position, and manoeuvre for safety. The duel scene presents a jealously crazed husband who engages his wife’s lover in a mid-air combat. The boy he has marked for death is diving to safely. With maniacal rage, the husband sweeps his p’ane in pursuit, bent on destroying his victim in a collision. The contest culminates in a spectacular and unforseen cJimax. The boy’s brother sweeps into the skies and crashes into the husband’s plane. Linden plays the boy who flies for hi s life; Bellamy is the crazed attacker, and Cabot has the dramatic rule of the sacrificing brother. W ALLSEND—TO-NIGHT. “Heads We Oo” will be screened to-night*. RUN ANGA—TO-NIGHT. “The Worst Woman In Paris” will be slrown to-night. MILITARY BALL—SEPTEMBER 4. Schaef’s Hall on the night of Wednesday. September 4th, will be a scene of gaiety, when the Military Ball will be held. Thp dancing fraternity on the West Coast should not miss this function. which promises to be an even greater sueess than in past years. The Happiness Bovs will provide their usual delight ful music, whilst the splendid dancing floor will be under the control of an efficient M.C.
