CANTERBURY (15)—INANGAHUA (20). The Canterbury ami Tnangahua representatives met on the Reefton Racecourse on Sunday afternoon, and were witnessed by a good concourse of spectators. The attendance would undoubtedly have I>et*n greater, but for the fact that a heavy shower of rain fell :l few minues before the commencement of the game. Despite lhe wet weather, tin- ground was in gornl order, except for being somewhat slippery. Inangahua scored immediately after the kick off. Kerridgc getting over the line from a loose rush. Then, from similar play, Canterbury scored, making the 'points 5-5. Inangahua touards were superior in the ’.nose, ami had Canterbury defending, and White got over. The t'.’y was converted by Scott. 10-5. Play centred in midfieh for a time, and then the visitors’ back division threw the ball about, and after it had passed through seven eight pairs of hands, the winger scored, the try being converted wi a splendid kick. The game was now fast, and it moved up ami down th.* field in inpid succession, and after a lorward ri V'. Willman dodged ovm lhe. liiin 1 in a good position. Ihe kick at goal -was a poster. Inangahui then attacked, and Canterbury forced. From the kick out. the ball wen' to Scott, who returned well down the field, ami short y after the same pin'■ c.- scored after a dodgy run. Th«‘ try was not enhanced. In the second spell, the Inanaghua forwards asserted their superiority, and had Canterbury defending hard for half the spell. Then from an iruostible forward rush, King got over, the kick again failing. Canterbury then look a. turn at attacking. but Inangahua defence was good. However. from a rebound, they were compelled to force down. From then to the conclusion of the game, the pay was very strenuous, both sides being compelled to do their best to prevent a spore, ami Prom a loose rush the Canterbury full-back over-ran the ball, and King, following up fast, scored. Scott failed to increase the >< on* and the game ended shortly nfler with the score: Inangahua 2”; Canterbury 1(1. Of Inangahua’s team, Scott. McKenzie, Willman and Morris showed out best in the back division, and White. Smith and August were the most prominent forwards. For Can-i terbury.
