AUSTRALIAN TEAM. IMPROVED DISPLAY. (Per Press Association.) DANNEVIRKE, August 20 Playing fast, clean hockey, characterised by clever st»*»kw«k th* touring Australian team avenged the;r defeat of 1929 by defeating Dannovirke to-day by a margin of four goals, the scoring being: Australia 5; Dannevirke 1. At half-time the visitors were two up. Dannevirke’s score was gained in the first minute of the second half by Tolmie. The ground was fast. and comparatively dry, suiting the Australians’ style of play much better than the ground on Saturday at Hamilton. Goals were scored for Australia by Tester (2). Allen, Penman and Leggett. Their total would have been higher but for bnliant play by the Dannevirke goalkeeper. Chapman. Dannevirke’s attacks lacked polish. J. Elliott (Australia) repeatedly repelled the forwards, to stacit counter attacks. The team winning was at about the same •trength as on Saturday, a hard-h tting eleven developing good combination. The superiority was more marked in the forwards, rather than in defence. Alien being outstanding at centre, and Leggett and Tester the next best, and Lee the best of th<* halves. Dannevirke defence was fairly sound, a fault being that the halves were • disinclined to back up the forwards.
