Nelson Board AGAINST PROPOSED CHANGES. (Per Press Association.) NELSON. August 20. Th P Nelson Education Board passed a resolution that it is strongly of the opinion that New Zealand’s national system of education, free, secular and compulsory, should be maintained, and, further, that judged by the spirit, purpose and evidence of benefits of the Nelson system of religious instfuction. which is. and has been, in operation iu this district for a number of years, this Board recommends that that system be adopted in all other education districts in the Dominion; and further, that the Board deprecates the placing of religious instruction in the hands of teachers. It was stated that, of a total roll of 6.288 in the Board’s area, 3,447 children were receiving bible insrufction under the Nelson system, which had been adopted in 42 schools. Othes systems of instruction were carried out in seven schools, 76 children coming under them.
