Palmer v. Strickland BRILLIANT BOXING. (Per Press Association.) INVERCARGILL. August 19. Au exhibition of clever, scientifi • boxing was given by Ambrose Palmer, the heavyweight champion of Australia, in his first engagement under the auspices of the Southland Boxing Association, last night, when he defeated Maurice Strickland, of Welling ton. on points. The contest was one of ten threeminute rounds, and was staged in the Drill Hall, which was crowded with about 3000 spectators. Palmer’s weight was 12.1?.. and Strickland’s 12.12. Palmer’s footwork was a revelation, and his speed of punch was remarkable. He was as fast as a lightweight in some of his moves. Strickland, however, was not disgraced, he proving that he could box as well as punch.
