KING’S JUBILEE

THE PROGRAMME. (British Official Wireless.) RUGBY. July 30. In the Lords, Lord Hailsham announced that the King and Queen had been graciously pleased to approve the recommendation of the Prime Minister that the 25th anniversary of His Majesty’s succession, which wil> fall on Miouday, May 6, 1935, shouhi bo recognised in a fitting manner. The Government is making the necessary arrangements. The title of Silver Jubilee has been officially adopted for next year. The. King desiyed that the celebrations should be on a local basis, anj that his subjects shouldwherever practicable, have the *op' portunity of observing the occasion near their homes. The official celebration in London would extend from May 6 t'u May 18. Acjeessiou Day, May 6. would be a public holiday throughout the United Kingdom, and the celebrations would be inaugurated by a. thanksgiving service at St. Paul’s Cathedral, at tended by the King and Queen and other members 'Ol‘ the Royal Family. The Lord President of the Council has been in communication with the Prime Ministers of Canada, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, and the President of the Executive of the Irish Free State. cumstances. it 'was not possible to say in every case whether it would be practicable for the Prime Minister to attend. The President of the Executive of the Pish Free State had intimated that in the existing rircuni sauces it would not be possible for the Free Slate Government to accept the invitation. A similar invitation was sent to the Prime of Rhodesia. It. was hoped to take advantage of the presence in London of the Dominion Prime Ministers to discuss any question of political importance outstanding.
