HARBOUR BRIDGE

A highly important development in connection with the proposal to construct a bridge across Waitemata Harbour is announce.l. This, according to the bridge company, will make an early start with the undertaking assured. The directors to-day announced they had received advice from England that £1,500,000 is ready and available to build the bridge, provided certain financial deta-ils are settled locally. During the, past few days, these details have been adjusted, as far as New Zealand is concerned. All that remains is for these details to be finalised in London. and the company cabled to London to-day, with that end i" view. The directors also recorded appreciation of the services of Mr Harris, ALP., in the negotiations in Wellington, for such conditions as are necessary to enable the company to take advantage of the offer. It has been estimated that the bridge will provide work for 400 men for three years, apart from the indirect benefit.
