TARIFF CUT PROPOSED
U.S.A. Delegation Disagree PRESIDERNT PLAYING HIS OWN HAND. (Aus. & N.Z. Cable Assn.) (Received June 19 at 10.45 p.m.) LONDON, June 19. The •‘Daily Chronicle” says: — Senator Gillman (of the U.S.A, del 0.-ation to the London Conference) has repudiated the American pro* posal for the ten per cent, reduction in customs duties. His repudiation has caused a sensation. The document was actually- handed to the League Secretariat by one of the experts attached to the American Legation. It is closely in accord with the views of Senator Hull (U.S. Secretary) who mentioned the idea of a ten [or cent, tariff cut at a private meeting of the American delegates. Sena tors Pittman and Oouzens, and representatives Morrison and Mcßcy nolds opposed it. and they were staggered when they read that the pro posal had been •officially advanced on behalf of the delegation. The incident came as the climax to a week in which discontent is increasing among the American delegates, who complain that they have not been informed as to President Roosevelt’s tarriff stabilisation policy, saying they had been given 1 radically no information as to what had been happening at the banker talks.
