Mr E. Downey, Reefton, leaves today on a holiday visit to Wellington. Constable N. 11. Tuck, formerly of Greymouth, and now of Wairoa, is visiting Greymouth, lhe funeral of the Jute James Barclay Douglas took place yesterday afternoon at Karoro Cemetery. Alfred Kaye, of London, arrived at Auckland yesterday, in the course of a tour of inspection of the work of tin* London Mission Society’s work, with Rev. W. M. Britton (Home Secretary). He will visit the Congregational Churches in Now Zealand before going to Australia. Miss Ethel Wa.llace, the well-known Dunedin violiniste (formerly of Greymouth) received high praise for her: artistic and executive qualifications as a player from AL Tossy Spivakovsky, the violinist of the brilliant Spivakov-sky-Kutrz Trio, which has just completed a season in Dunedin, in course of a tour of the Dominion. M. Spiva.kovsky was very much impressed with Miss Wallace, and urged her to endeavour to go to Europe in furtherance of her studies. The death occurred at the Lewisham I Hospital, Christchurch, yesterday afternoon, of Sister Alary Joseph, at the age of 34 years, a native of Australia. The deceased, up to a short time ago, was a Sister at the O’Conor Home at Westport, to which she came almost eleven years ago from Ausfra- ! lia, and she was known as a very devoted helper of the sick, being greatly esteemed by the inmates of that institution. She was taken ill as the result of a chill, and after some time in Reef ton she went to Christchurch, where her illness proved fatal. She has no relatives in New Zealand. The funeral will take place in Christchurch.
