While it will probably take some time to liquidate the military situation. a genuine effort to carry the Tungku Armistice into effect appears to lie under way. A noticeable instance of ihe improved Tooling was tho arrival at Peking of a Japanese aeroplane carrying an officer detailed by the Ja] anese army to offer con dolences over the Chinese loss of life in th ( > recent hostilities. Meanwhile the forei-jn despatches report that tho Japanese troops have begun withdrawing northward from Chin wangtao. On the Chinese side, rapid progress is reported in the work of winding np tho war lime organisations and the transterring of troops back to the provinces.
