BUTCHERS’ AWARD

ALLEGATIONS OF BOYCOTT DENIED. (Per Press Association). WELLINGTON, June 9. Application made by the* Master Butchers’ Association for a new award to cover the workers in the industry in Wellington district came before the Conciliation Council.

On behalf of the Workers’ Union, it was contended that the proceedings were not in order, and after a somewhat heated discussion, certain legal points raised were referred to the Arbitration Court for a decision. The employers’ advocate, Mr Mountjoy, alleged that representatives of the Union yesterday went to some hotels and other business premises threatening a boycott unless an agreement was reached by the Conciliation Council today. The employers are prepared to enter a new award on fair conditions. The Union’s advocate, Mr Croskery, denied that there was any suggestion of boycott.
